The occasion was the annual Lodge Commonwealth of Australia family picnic and barbecue. On Saturday, 10 January, Brethren, partners, family and invited guests made the annual journey to the Cotter Reserve, on the scenic banks of the Cotter River, south west of Canberra.

A memorable social afternoon was enjoyed by all. Some brought picnic hampers with cold meats and salad, others the traditional sausages for the barbie, with ample supplies of fine wine and cheese, and soft drinks for the youngsters. The gathering was a little dispersed due to the closest barbie being out-of-order, with the second located some 40 metres away; however, this provided the perfect perimeter in which the younger guests could expel energy.

The occasion was particularly marked by the attendance of Norma Stacy; two candidate nominees, Rev. Alec Stevenson and Mr Nicholas McCaskie; the Hammond family, Peter and Melinda with their children Emily, Thomas and Charlotte (guests of the SW); the SW's daughter, Tahnee Cholawinskyj; and the Secretary's daughter, Alicia Slater.
